Acne Keloidalis Nuchae
Acne keloidalis nuchae is a chronic inflammatory condition which affects mainly Black men. Affected individuals develop pink to flesh colored, dome shaped papules and pustules around the hair follicles on the posterior scalp and neck. These firm, scar-like bumps can gradually enlarge and coalesce to form larger lesions. The condition leads to scarring and hair loss in the affected areas. The cause of the condition is unknown. Management of the condition focuses on avoiding irritation and friction to the affected areas and adjusting shaving techniques in an attempt to prevent the formation of new lesions. Treatment options include prescription medications, corticosteroid injections, laser therapy, and surgery.
